Last Week's Question: A popular condiment and ingredient in confections and liquors, I was the herb of the year in 1995. A member of the Apiaceae=Umbelliferae family, I bloom from June to September in warm temperatures. I come in several varieties, the most popular of which yields a sweet oil with a touch of spice -- a scent that is quite difficult to mistake for anything but me. What herb am I?
Last Week's Answer: fennel
This Week's Question: I
am organic compound found inside a hydroxyl group on the carbon next to the
carboxylic acid group. Some examples of me are
-hydroxyoctanoic
acid,
-hydroxydecanoic
acid and other acids. I am popular in women's cosmetics -- especially facial
cleansers and masks. I am a _________________.

Last month, for the trillionth time, I had a
conversation with an acquaintance who is forever going to start her own business
making beautiful eye glass cases and accessories. If you need something for eye
glasses, she has it ... cases, beaded neck eye glass holders, contact lens
holders, lens protectors -- you name it, and she can make it or have it made for
you. The problem is
that it's becoming really tiresome hearing her complain year after year about how
she hates her full-time job and really thinks she could sell her eye glass cases and
accessories if she only had her own business. Which, by the way, she plans to
start as soon as ...
1. her son is out of pre-school (today, he's in
3rd grade);
2. she gets out of debt (not
going to happen until Macy's stops accepting her credit card);
3.
she finishes a huge project at her job (which will be replaced by another huge
project);
4. she moves out of her cramped
apartment so she can have more space (need to get credit in order to apply for
home loan); and/or
5. she finds a husband so she
can have some income to fall back on (uhm, just because he marries you doesn't
mean he'll open up his pocket book for your dream business, and even if he does,
you don't want your business funded by someone who may just next month not be
able to give you any money)
Get my drift?? I am a firm believer that, at life's end, we won't regret the things we did so much as we'll regret the things we didn't do. So what are you waiting for? What's holding you back from Creating The Life You Love??
Do you have a marketable skill? Do you make a product with high consumer demand that you think you can sell? Are you a relatively organized person with a desire to start your own business? If your answer to those questions is "yes," but you haven't started a business, what are you waiting for? Are you waiting for opportunity to knock? That's probably not going to happen ... your chances are better if you create your own opportunity.
Time passes quickly and before you know it, it could be too late to get started. So unless you want to regret not trying, why not give it a shot? Start with some good books on business planning, study what others are doing in your desired industry and see if you can make a go of it. Don't be like my acquaintance and marginalize your chances with "I'll start my business as soon as I ..." double talk." Get off your duff and start looking into it! You may find that entrepreneurship is not for you, but at least then you can move on confidently in another direction and not be weighed down by unfulfilled possibilities.
What
Are You Waiting For??!!
Fruits of Eden Body Polisher I received this Myrtle Leaf product shortly before Christmas last year and I
just opened it up last week. What was I waiting for??!! I basically love this
skincare treat for two reasons: the scent and the way the combination of body
oils feels on my skin. First, the scent --- a soft and sensual combination of
pear, florals and a touch of citrus. As far as I know,
this is one of only a few products in the Myrtle Leaf line that is not
fragranced with 100% essential oils. I always have a hard time getting any type
of aroma to "linger" on my skin but this one does quite well and
smells good on me for a long time. The combination of base oils in the product -- safflower oil, grape seed oil,
vitamin E -- is one of the best I've ever used. It's rich without leaving a
greasy feeling when I apply it to my skin. Part of the trick here of course is
to apply only a little to damp skin and massage it in thoroughly. (Too much of
any oil will make you greasy). I love using this in the morning to penetrate and
nourish my skin. A little goes a long way! As you're reading this, you're probably wondering, "what about the
polish part?" Well, the polishing ingredients -- granular shaped exfoliants
-- all settle on the bottom of the bottle and I just don't have the patience to
shake this product in the shower every time I turn it upside down to put in on
my cleansing puff. I strained out all the granules and put them in my own
handmade facial scrub and use the oil to nourish my skin. Waste not, want not
