2. Handmade Beauty Trivia Question: Last Week's winner was Pam Beckman of St. Paul, Minnesota. Pam won a Trail Boss Bar, courtesy of Donna Baase of Cowgirl Enterprises. Trail Boss Bar is a balm for sore muscles with lots of herbs and essential oils of ginger, birch and clove.

Last Week's Question: During the first half of the last century, a large manufacturer of soaps and other household products latched onto the ideas of selling their soaps by highlighting the fact that they contained only vegetable oils, and grace their advertisements with beautiful depictions of Egyptian women engaged in various bathing rituals. To win this week, state the well known trade name of the soap they advertised so successfully.

Last Week's Answer: Palmolive

This Week's Question: In 1944, the first female to make a mark by blending perfumes in the male-dominated perfume blending world, created a fragrance with an 8% concentration of a bold aromatic oil known as galbanum. The perfume was known as the first with a distinctive green note. She later developed perfumes for Nina Ricci, Elizabeth Arden and Balmain. Who was this woman, born in Bordeaux in 1909?

Be the first to correctly answer this week's question and win a generous sample of Avocado Butter from HBN member BioChemica!

Please read the contest rules before submitting your entry.

While time does not permit me to respond personally to all entrants, the winner will be notified by email and their name posted at the link above.

3. Handmade Beauty Product Review: Aroma-Goodies For Your Pets!

~ Calm Down Canine Essential Oil Blend ($12-1/2 oz. dropper bottle)
~ Canine Soothing Ear Puffs ($14/30 puffs) by Aromaleigh, Inc.

I have been using HBN member Aromaleigh's "human" products for a year now and loving them! Last year, when my husband and I adopted Koa, our chocolate lab, we knew that we had to pamper our pooch. After all, if Aromaleigh's human products were so great (which they are!), we knew our new little addition (now over 65 pounds!) could use some aromatic TLC as well. He has  not been disappointed, and neither have we.

Calm Down Canine Aromatherapy Blend - I recommended this product to a friend even before I had a dog. She has 2 German Wire-Haired Pointers and they are literally whirlwinds on 4 legs...always energetic and full of play! She accepted my recommendation and was pleased, so this is one of the first Aromaleigh pet products I tried. Even though Koa is 65 pounds, he's still a 7-month old puppy, and he comes with all the energy of puppies his age. Training is sometimes a challenge and getting him to behave around company and the neighborhood kids can be downright exhausting for all of us. But Calm Down Canine has helped tremendously. Just a little between my palms followed by a short but sweet doggy massage usually calms him quickly and he loves being pampered. He also seems to like the smell.

Canine Soothing Ear Puffs - These little round cotton pads have been fantastic! Like all labs, Koa has a propensity for ear infections, so we have to wash and medicate them regularly to minimize this possibility. Needless to say, ear bath time is not Koa's favorite time of the week, but we have found a way to make it quick and painless for all of us... we clean his ears with one of Aromaleigh's cleansing puffs. We still sometimes use the "stinky medicine stuff" but these puffs are a great way to clean, especially since Koa seems to enjoy the feel of the soft cotton in his ear much more than the paper towels the vet told us to use with the "stinky medicine stuff." Koa never likes the thought of having his ears cleaned, but once he feels the tender cotton, sniffs the light (not medicine-y) aroma and hears our soothing tones, he relaxes quickly and we can get the cleaning done is far less time than with the "stinky medicine stuff."
