In celebration of black history month, this month's questions focus on identifying men and women of black
African descent who encourage and inspire us.
Question: In 1900, this son of slaves who was born in 1868 in South Carolina, founded an independent political
subdivision in the State of Georgia, fulfilling his lifelong dream of establishing a self-sufficient and self-sustaining
black American community. His son, who shared his name, founded one of the first African-American cosmetics
manufacturing firms in the US.
Hints: The political subdivision he founded is now a community located in Troup County, Georgia. Also, his
great-great grandson is knows an "Six" since his name proudly recognizes six generations of free Americans of
African ancestry.
In addition to the 4-ounce bottle of rose (Rosa damascena) hydrosol courtesy, the winner will also receive generous
samples of peppermint and spearmint essential oils!!
Please read the contest rules here before submitting your entry.
While time does not permit me to respond personally to all entrants, the winner will be notified by email and their name posted at the link above.
~ Jasmine Shimmer Cream by Aromaleigh
2 oz. | $28.00
Congratulations Nicole & Jeffrey Coles! That's right, one of our most faithful and enthusiastic
handmade beauty product review panelists
is now my sister-in-law. As of yesterday, she became Mrs. Coles, and one of the best parts about the whole event for me
was that it provided a convenient excuse to wear Aromaleigh's Jasmine
Shimmer Cream!
Jasmine Shimmer Cream is a light, delicate cream with just the lightest "barely there" splash of silver shimmer. I ran it
through my hair and on my chest and shoulders and it was the perfect
complement for my bridesmaid's gown, which was also a lovely shade of silver. I have always associated glitter
with the twirling team at my high school homecoming parade. For this reason, I have never tried any products with glitter,
preferring instead to give them to the younger girls in my family. But I'm so glad I tried Jasmine Shimmer Cream ...
the mica powder in the product is so fine that you can't even
feel it when it's applied. The cream is light and not heavy, and the shimmer very light and delicate. It was just the
perfect touch of sparkle and I plan to use it again at my next formal event.
Oh! I almost forgot ... the aroma of pure jasmine oil makes the smell fantastic too! I highly recommend Jasmine Shimmer Cream
for your next formal party, wedding or just when you want a
little extra shimmer in you life.
Jasmine Shimmer Cream and other yummies are available from HBN

This week's recipe comes to you courtesy of HBC reader Tammy
Zaino of Morning Glory Soaps
in Texas. Tammy tells me that this is a wonderful recipe to cleanse, exfoliate and draw impurities from the surface of
the skin. It makes about 4 applications.
Ingredients
2 tablespoons cosmetic clay (Tammy recommends kaolin or "China" clay because it's very gentle for sensitive skin)
1 tablespoon powdered full cream goat's milk
1 tablespoon colloidal oatmeal (cosmetic grade oat flour or just use very finely ground whole oats)
1 tablespoon wheat germ flakes (in your grocer's cereal aisle)
1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt (for rejuvenation)
7 drops Egyptian Rose Geranium Essential Oil (great for mature skin)
Blending Procedure & Use
Combine 1 tablespoon of the mixture with enough warm water to create a nice paste. Work in circular motions applying to the
face. Allow the product to remain on the skin while you rest for a few minutes. After it has dried completely, rinse with
warm water, blot dry.
If you have a suggested recipe or trivia question you'd like to share, send it to Jenn@HandmadeBeauty.com. If we use either in an upcoming issue, we'll credit you!!
