2. HANDMADE BEAUTY TRIVIA QUESTION ~ Last week's
winner was Joy McKillip of Portales, New Mexico. Joy won a selection of handmade
bath products by HBN member Joan's Gardens!!
LAST WEEK'S QUESTION: In 1921, the first successful
perfume laden with synthetic
fatty aldehydes was launched and met with rave reviews. Described by its creator
as "the smell of a snowy landscape," the perfume remains one of the
most successful perfumes of all time. To win, name both the perfume and the
person credited with its creation.
LAST WEEK'S ANSWER: Chanel No. 5 and perfumer Ernest Beaux
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: To win this week, name the person to whom the following statement is attributed, "Simply stated, beauty means vitality, imagination, energy - personality traits that have more to do with an individual's character than his or her age or some idealized arrangement of physical features. There is nothing more attractive than love of life or the curiosity of a child."
Be the first to answer this week's question and win a collection of handmade soaps from HBN member Of The Earth Soapworks!

3. HANDMADE BEAUTY PRODUCT REVIEW by Donna Maria
~ Honey Dream Cream by Kathleen Lewis Beauty Worldwide
4 oz. ~ $25
I rarely include product reviews of goodies that are not easily found on-line or in catalogs or brochures, but I am making an exception for Honey Dream Cream by Kathleen Lewis Beauty Worldwide. A former fashion model, Kathleen joined HBN as one of its very first members. Kathleen doesn't have a retail catalog because she is busy filling orders for DKNY, Colette in Paris, VickyH in Switzerland and several stores in LA. If you know exactly what you want, however, and can catch Kathleen by email (easier said than done), she will fill your order for this lovely cream and some of her other luscious products as well. Honey Dream Cream is the perfect complement for dry skin. It's thick and rich the way I prefer body creams, especially now that we are moving into the crisp, cool fall season. This cream colored product smells lightly of honey and contains just enough lanolin to soothe and protect, but not enough to cause it to feel sticky and uncomfortable. I enjoy massaging it into my skin after a warm bath. When the weather becomes quite cold, I'm sure I will like it on my face as well, but it's not quite ready yet. But those with year-round dry skin might have a different take.
Bonus!! Honey Dream Cream is perfect for dry, fly-away hair like mine. It adds shine and managability, 2 things my hair can never have enough of!
Honey Dream Cream is available by contacting Kathleen at klewis9755@aol.com
or by calling her at the number found in HBN's Member Directory at www.handmadebeauty.com.
4. SKINFORMATION ~ Yogurt To Beautify & Tone
Yes, yogurt is a very tasty and nutritious treat,
especially mixed with fresh
fruits. But don't forget to save some for your
skin! Yogurt contains lactic acid and is especially helpful to tone oily skin or
skin with larger pores. I like to
use freshly made yogurt in my skin care products in part because it feels so
smooth and soothing going onto the skin.
When I have time, I make it myself or purchase it at a
local farmer's market. Today's Aromatic Beauty Food Recipe, Honey-Yogurt Mask,
combines yogurt and honey, two all-around skin care work horses, with fresh
fruit to make a product that is very refreshing ~ to the taste buds and the
skin!
5. AROMATIC BEAUTY FOOD RECIPE ~ Honey-Yogurt Mask
Today's recipe is brought to you courtesy of Jeanine
Pollak of Botanic Adventures. For more information about herbal classes, books
and consultations with Jeanine, log onto www.botanicadventures.com.
Ingredients
1 teaspoon finely minced fresh lavender blossoms
1/4 cup plain yogurt
1/8 cup mashed fresh apricots, peaches or bananas
1/8 cup honey
Blending Procedure
Soak the lavender blossoms in the yogurt for 1 hour or more. Gently stir
in 1/8 cup mashed fresh apricots, peaches or bananas. Add honey last and stir
well to incorporate. To use, wash face and leave skin damp. Generously pat
Honey-Yogurt Mask over face and neck. Relax, enjoy, and rinse off with warm
water after 1/2 hour. Will keep in the refrigerator for 1-2 days, and yes, it's
edible!
