4. HANDMADE TOILETRIES PRODUCT REVIEWS
--->Aromaleigh's Dry Skin Creme Cleanser, 5 ounces ~ $16-18 (depending on skin type)
I love treating myself to new products whenever I can. My skin is especially dry most of the year, so whenever I see
a quality handmade beauty product for dry skin, I don't rest until I try it. A few months ago, I received Aromaleigh's
Dry Skin Creme Cleanser. To be honest, I ordered it partly because the pictures on the Web site were so nicely
done. But when I got it into my bathroom, it did not disappoint! It's a light creme that performs heavy duty cleansing
~ getting rid of pretty much all traces of mascara and leaving my skin feeling freshly cleaned. And since I don't like
to use much moisturizer at night (so my skin can breathe and replenish its own moisture), I was pleased that, after
using this product, I didn't feel like I needed tons of moisturizer anyway, and it didn't leave behind a greasy feeling.
The product is attractively packaged in a cobalt blue pump bottle with a beautiful label and a touch
of raffia around the bottle's neck. This wonderful creme contains too many goodies to list, but my favorites (and the
ones I think do the most for my skin) include avocado oil, comfrey, chickweed, rosewater and aromatic oils of
calendula CO2, clary sage, carrot seed, geranium, rose and lavender. www.aromaleigh.com.
--->Kate's Soap Company's Lemongrass Patchouli Soap and Sweet Ginger
Citrus Soaps @4.5 ounces ~ $4.50
Since I got my start in this business making real handmade soap, I always like to try new bars. I only got a brief
whiff of Kate's Lemongrass Patchouli because my soon-to-be husband swiped it right out of the box. He just loves
lemongrass. So I was "stuck" with all the other wonderful handmade creations, including Sweet Ginger Citrus,
Healing Garden, Nori and Clary Sage and Chamomile Calendula. So far, I've only been able to bathe fast enough to
try Sweet Ginger Citrus which has a ginger aroma laced with fresh citrus to ease the bite. I love the smell and the
way the lather feels on my skin. As Kate's Web site cautions, it's not a soap for sensitive or broken skin and I can
now confirm that the powdered yucca and lemon peel add a bit of a scratchy feel (which was great to use on my
back when it itched in the shower one morning). Even so, this bar is just a sliver after a few weeks and I'm excited to
move on to the next ones. Read more about Kate in the St. Petersburg Times at Kate's Web site at
www.katesoap.com/katesoapcompany.html.
5. AROMATIC BEAUTY FOOD RECIPE ~ TEA THYME FACIAL TONING FLUID
This aromatic toner is soothing and refreshing and does a great job at closing pores after a light facial steam. Liquid ingredients are measured using weight (with a scale), not volume (with a measuring cup).
Ingredients
5 ounces very hot distilled water
1 bag each green tea and rooibos tea (both available at most natural food stores)
1 tablespoon vegetable glycerin
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
10 drops lavender essential oil
3 drops myrtle essential oil
4 drops clary sage essential oil
12 drops geranium essential oil
2 drops rose essential oil
Blending Procedure
Steep tea in hot distilled water in a covered container for about 20 minutes. Add vegetable glycerin and apple cider
vinegar one at a time, stirring after each addition. Once the liquid has completely cooled, add essential oils. Pour
into a glass container and shake before each use to disperse the essential oils, which will not dissolve in the liquid.
Use a soft cotton pad to apply to freshly cleaned facial and neck skin. Follow with moisturizer. Enjoy!!
