4. HANDMADE TOILETRIES PRODUCT REVIEW - EXQUISITE AROMATHERAPY!!
This month's handmade product are the hands and the handiwork of Ricey Clapp's Inner Sanctum Salon & Day Spa. The basement home of Ricey Clapp, an aromatherapist, massage therapist and aesthetician, has been transformed into the Inner Sanctum Salon & Day Spa. Using a combination of her own freshly made aromatherapy spa treatments and other products she has come to trust, Ricey delivered an exquisite treatment beyond compare.
Entrance into the Inner Sanctum was an experience unto itself. One treatment room ensured that I received undivided attention and never had to contend with noises apart from my own ... no one else trotting down the hall outside to the bathroom, no telephones ringing. A true haven from the world, this lovely room with peach-colored walls and dim lights, along with soothing music, set the mood immediately. Art deco touches ranging from beautiful period furniture, including a vanity and hutch, to old advertisements for soaps and hair dressings ~ made the experience truly unique from the start. And Ricey pays special attention to every detail ... from the soft white spa slippers and warm spa robe to the lovely rose-shaped silken pillow that welcomed me to my spa table ... nothing was missing!
Ricey began with a peppermint foot bath infused with eucalyptus (to ease my congestion from a recent cold) and lavender, followed by a sea salt and liquid soap foot cleanser. My next treat was a leg and foot massage featuring sandalwood and jasmine oils ~ I nearly passed out from the pleasure. What a great way to begin a treatment!! Before I got to the drooling point, Ricey dipped my feet into paraffin wax and covered them with plastic and warm booties. I was then covered from head to toe with soft blankets and the real fun began.
Ricey's Exquisite Aromatherapy Facial treatment is composed of everything a full facial should have:
~Cleansing - with a light cream cleanser for my dry skin.
~Exfoliating - with a powdered milk and a powdered blend of Ayurvedic herbs mixed with rose hydrosol. As she
applied the exfoliant, Ricey reminded me not to ever really "scrub" my skin, but to gently pat the exfoliant on the
skin's surface, very gently massaging areas needing extra attention.
~Light Steaming - before the steaming, Ricey applied a bit of balm to my eye area and lips to protect them from the
steam -- a steady flow placed at just the right angle. This was a great way to clear my congestion!!
~Extraction was next for the areas around my nose ... for the first time in my life, it was painless!!
~Toning - a bracing spritz of Rosemary Verbena hydrosol prepared my skin for a wonderful mask made with olive oil,
German chamomile, rose otto and clay. This was brushed on with a light paint brush - hmmmm - and then removed
with warm compresses applied until the mask was removed.
~Moisturizer - Ricey followed this with more Rosemary Verbena, and a
generous amount of a blend of apricot kernel, jojoba, carrot and neroli
which she patted onto my skin ... I'm almost sure I literally heard my skin lapping it up.
~Shoulder neck/head massage - I barely remember this part ...
~Rose Tonic - a lovely and tasty rose petal elixir finished off my 3.5
hours with Ricey. A wet noodle I was.
Many other treatments await you at The Inner Sanctum, including Dr. Hauschka Facials (with brush massage!!), Full Body Steam Treatments, Back "Facials" and Foot Heaven Treatments. Beginning next month, Ricey will offer Sugaring ... the wonderful alterative to using waxes to remove unwanted body hair. For those who live near DC, or who visit, a trip to The Inner Sanctum Salon & Day Spa is a Must. For appointments, call The Inner Sanctum Salon & Day Spa at (301) 585-3756.
Have A Great Week!!
