1. HANDMADE TOILETRIES PRODUCT REVIEWS (prices do not include shipping/handling)
--->**"Honey, Lemon & Oatmeal Handmade Soap"** The Barn, 4 ounce bar, $4.00
I recently received some wonderful handmade soaps from across the Atlantic!! Honey, Lemon & Oatmeal Handmade
Soap was among my favorites. Handmade by Sara Phillips at The Barn in the UK, the scent of this soap is a light
yet spicy blend of lemongrass, litsea cubeb and cedarwood. The color is perfectly earthy ... a warm tan/brown shade
with visible flecks of oats throughout. The oats provide a light exfoliant while the blend of fixed oils (including
moisture-rich shea butter) makes for a very profuse, non-drying lather. Sara completely encloses her soaps in lovely,
sturdy handmade paper ... this is nice for people who don't like to buy soaps that have exposed or unwrapped areas.
The Barn has an extensive line of handmade soaps, including Hemp, BeesKneez and Calendula. Lucky UK
residents can order some of Sara's special Valentine's Day soap made with pure Rose Otto, Geranium and Lavender
essential oils. Order by February 11 to ensure prompt Valentine's Day delivery!! Soapmaker.co.uk
--->**"Splendour Lotion"** Splendour, Inc., 4 ounce pump bottle, $4.25
Splendour Lotion from Splendour, Inc., has a lovely texture that goes on smooth and silky. And even though it is a
light lotion, it still manages to be creamy and penetrating as well. Until I ran out, I had a bottle right next to my
computer so I could apply it regularly throughout the day. Splendour Lotion comes in a pretty cobalt blue plastic
bottle with a pump dispenser so there's no need to worry about losing the lid or getting a flip top dirty. And since
everything always works better when it's in a pretty package, I was doubly pleased with Splendour Lotion's cobalt
container. Splendour Lotion is available in a variety of scents ... I tried a delightful blend of citrus essential oils. The
combination was just right to cheer me, but not too sweet. It is also available in a variety of other scents, both
fragrance and essential oils. The lotion contains cocoa butter, jojoba oil and almond oil. Splendour, Inc., also has a
nice selection of lip balms and lotion bars. splendoursoaps@aol.com.

5. DONNA MARIA'S AROMATIC BEAUTY RECIPE - Slow Motion Potion
Burrrrr!! It's wintertime and here on the east coast, we've had no shortage of brutal winds and snow this season. Thank God for my Slow Motion Potion which feels so smooth going on after a warm bath that I have to apply it in Slow Motion. MmmMMmmmM ... this lotion is rich and thick, yet it glides easily into the skin without leaving behind a greasy feeling.
If you would like to send in a recipe, forward it to donnamaria@handmadebeauty.com. If selected, your recipe will be included in an upcoming issue of the Newsletter, along with a credit to you!!
Slow Motion Potion (yield @ 7 ounces)
Phase A Ingredients
8 grams anhydrous lanolin
10 grams extra virgin olive oil
12 grams fractionated coconut oil
2 grams beeswax
2 grams stearic acid
10 grams vegetable emulsifying wax
Phase B Ingredients
150 grams distilled water
1 teaspoon borax
8 grams liquid grapefruit seed extract (optional to extend shelf life)
Aromatic Oils
4 grams lavender essential oil
2 grams ylang ylang essential oil
Combine Phases in separate heat proof (I use Pyrex) 16 oz. glass measuring cups. Place each Phase in separate double boiler to warm water/borax and melt lanolin and waxes. When waxes are completely melted, use an electric mixer to combine the two Phases. Slow Motion Potion should form in just a few minutes. Add Aromatic Oils last and stir to incorporate. Pour into clean lotion bottles. Take a warm winter-time bath, enjoy a cup of tea and apply this potion in slow motion. Shake before using. Enjoy!!
